    Posiition Summary:

    • The Engine Cadet is a temporary training position dedicated to gaining shipboard knowledge, sea time, and practical experience in marine engineering. Under the supervision of senior engine officers, the cadet participates in on-the-job training and completes the required program in accordance with STCW and maritime administration standards.

    Essential duties and responsibilities:

    • All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with Royal Caribbean Group’s The Royal Way, SQM standards, USPH guidelines, environmental, and safety policies. Employees may be required to perform functions across various service venues and throughout the ship.
    • In line with Royal Caribbean Group’s Anchored in Excellence philosophy, all employees conduct themselves professionally and courteously at all times, engaging in positive physical and verbal interactions with guests and fellow crew members, especially in guest contact and crew areas.

    Training & Development:

    • Report directly to the Chief Engineer Junior, who monitors and supervises training activities.
    • Complete all assigned tasks promptly and efficiently as directed by the Chief Engineer Junior or delegates.
    • Participate in all required shipboard training, familiarization, drills, and safety exercises.
    • Complete engine systems and policy training modules, including familiarization forms, to the satisfaction of supervising officers.
    • Engage regularly in engine room operations, maintenance, and safety procedures.
    • Demonstrate competence in assigned tasks, including proper watchkeeping and engine team management processes.
    • Maintain and review personal training and familiarization records weekly with the Chief Engineer Junior.
    • Present training and onboard familiarization records to the ship’s master every 30 days.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Support engine room operations and maintenance activities.
    • Participate actively in safety training and drills.
    • Work collaboratively with engine team members to ensure operational efficiency.

    Hiring Requirements:

    • Basic Safety Training certificate (STCW) required.
    • Enrolled in or a student of a recognized nautical or maritime training program.

    Language Requirements:

    • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with guests.
    • Ability to read and write in English to understand procedures, give/receive instructions, and communicate effectively with supervisors, crew, and guests.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Regularly required to stand, walk, handle equipment, reach, talk, hear, and smell.
    • Frequently or occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus.
    • Must be physically capable of participating in emergency life-saving procedures and drills, including handling lifeboats, with full use of arms, legs, and sensory functions.
