    2ND ENGINEER

    Reports to : 1st Engineer and Chief Engineer

    Job Description :

    The Second Engineer is responsible for:
    · Utilising the AMOS System for planning and update of work, stores, and unexpected maintenance;
    · Safe working Practices / Toolbox meeting in Engine Room;
    · Carrying out engine room related work as assigned by the First Engineer;
    · Carrying out maintenance in accordance with AMOS System;
    · Planning and submitting Permit to Work/Risk Assessment/Toolbox meeting;
    Note: Under no circumstances shall any modification or project be carried out without the consent of the Chief Engineer.  
    · Adhering to all Company Policies and Procedures, Manuals and Directives always;
    · Training their watch team to follow safe and environmentally responsible working practices and to maintain a high watch keeping standard;
    · Ensuring that all machinery is operated safely, efficiently and economically in accordance with Company Regulations and Policies;
    · Other responsibilities as assigned by First Engineer and Chief Engineer, but not limited to the above;
    · Reading and complying with Chief Engineer Standing Order and Night Order Book

    The 2nd Engineer is responsible for carrying out duties in the engine department as directed by the First and/or Chief Engineer.

    In order to consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product and services, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • The Second Engineer will be given an area or specific system to be responsible for the daily operation and maintenance in accordance with the AMOS system.

    • The Second Engineer will work closely with the First Engineer when scheduling maintenance works on the equipment assigned, if additional manpower is needed.

    • If any operational problems with the equipment, the Second Engineer must report and work closely with the vessels Electrical Engineers in order to resolve subject issues.

    • The Second Engineer must be watch qualified and able to take over the watch or stand watch as manning may require.

    • If any operational problems occur with the equipment, the Second Engineer must report  and work closely with the vessel’s Electrical Engineers and 1st Engineer to resolve these issues

    • Shall be familiar with the safety management system, including specific responsibilities in the safety organization according to the emergency plan and station bill.

    • Lead watch teams and maintenance teams in regular operating duties, PM and repair work.

    • Will be assigned duties that are customary as directed by the department head.

    • Initiates and maintains effective employee relations at all times.

    • Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures applicable for subject position.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum of one (1) year prior experience as a Third Engineer is required.  Prior experience as a Second Engineer is preferred.

    • Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.

    • The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines.

    • Must demonstrate willingness to learn and further their knowledge of onboard equipment and procedures.

    EDUCATION

    • Highschool diploma or foreign equivalent is required.

    • Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required.

    • An Unlimited Second Engineer License is required.

    • A National License with a Bahamian Endorsement is required.

    REV Ocean is unlike any other ship. It is equipped with some of the most sophisticated facilities onboard for carrying out cutting-edge ocean science, as well as offering charter opportunities designed to integrate exploration, adventure, and science.     Overview

    Position Overview

    The Storekeeper is responsible for the efficient management, tracking, and distribution of all consumables, spare parts, research & expedition stores, and hotel provisions aboard REV. This role supports both the technical and hospitality departments, ensuring seamless operations during scientific missions, guest voyages, and remote expeditions. The Storekeeper maintains meticulous inventory control, ensures regulatory compliance, and works closely with deck, engineering, science, and interior teams to provide timely and accurate supply support.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    Inventory & Stock Management

    • Maintain accurate inventory of all technical, scientific, deck, engineering, galley, and hotel stores using the vessel’s inventory management software.
    • Track consumption, forecast demand, and prepare order lists in collaboration with department heads.
    • Conduct regular stock takes and update records with clear traceability.
    • Ensure stores are properly labeled, organized, well-kept and stored according to manufacturer requirements.

    Procurement & Logistics

    • Assist the Chief Engineer, Purser, or Captain in sourcing and ordering supplies and spares.
    • Coordinate with suppliers, agents, and logistics companies to arrange deliveries globally—often in remote regions.
    • Oversee the receipt of goods, verify packing lists and invoices, and ensure non-conformities are documented and reported.
    • Manage customs documentation for scientific equipment, hazardous goods, samples, and yacht guest provisions.

    Scientific & Expedition Support

    • Supporting the science team on specialized research equipment, consumables, sample storage materials, and field kits.

    Safety & Compliance

    • Maintain storage areas according to ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, and SOLAS guidelines.
    • Ensure correct handling and storage of hazardous materials (e.g., paints, chemicals, lubricants).
    • Participate in safety drills and ensure manifest accuracy for emergency gear and safety equipment.
    • Work with engineering and deck teams to ensure spares and stores comply with class and flag state requirements.

    Cross Department Collaboration

    • Liaise with the Chief Engineer on technical spares planning and maintenance support.
    • Liaise with other Heads of Department to assist with facilitating spares, planning, ordering and purchasing.
    • Support the Captain and management with cost control, budgeting, and reporting.

    Key Responsibilities

    Competency Requirements

    During the vessel yacht outfitting period, it is essential that the incumbent manage the complete built, from scratch, structure of stores which includes, but not limited to, location inventory, general inventory, lockers, shelves, system process and labelling.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Previous experience as a Storekeeper, Inventory Officer, or similar role at sea—experience on research vessels, expedition ships, or yachts preferred.
    • Strong understanding of maritime inventory systems and requisition procedures.
    • Familiarity with scientific equipment and expedition operations is advantageous.
    • Excellent organizational, record-keeping, and documentation skills.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical, scientific, and hospitality departments.
    • Ability to work independently and thrive in remote regions with limited resupply.

    Valid STCW certificates and seafarer medical; additional safety or logistics qualifications a plus
